Birmingham police and Birmingham Zoo officials have been in the 9000 block of Roebuck Blvd trying to locate a 200lb bear. Officials in the Alabama Division of Conservation will also be on the scene.
BPD K-9 units have arrived to assist find the bear.
It was first spotted about five:30pm Friday evening by a driver. Birmingham police arrived later on making visual connection with it as well.
Birmingham mother and father requested the aid of Star one, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s helicopter. Thermal imaging products are also in use.
The final bear sighting in Birmingham only agreed to be fourteen days in the past in Ensley. That bear was captured and released into the wild.
Sgt Johnny Williams advises individuals to stay home or from the scene if possible. He adds the division will remain on scene until the bear is captured
